EQUATOR ACEDEMY OF ART - ALUMNI INTERVIEW
What is your name?
eric chun
What is your profession?
graphic designer
Why did you choose to study at Equator?
i chose equator because i thought it was the best college in penang but i think i have been conned by both the school and the public to believe that.
What were your most memorable moments whilst studying at Equator?
most memorable moment will have to be me getting the best grade in the entire class where i only spent 3 hours doing a project and the rest of the classmates spent 10 weeks. it all comes to the ability to outspeak your fellow students. also one of my classmate had an argument with a lecturer known as Banana and was quoted with a famous line from the movie Rockstar. the line was “stand up and shout!”.
Which lecturer or staffs has inspired you whilst at Equator and why?
lecturer? maybe inspired by chun woei a little but staff wise it is definitely mr chuah. he indirectly showed me how to operate a business and ways to con the students money and get away with it. best of all, most pea brains dont even know it.....how good is that?
What type of experience did you gain whilst at Equator that you found valuable in today's working environment? (for example, meeting tight deadlines, time management, team work, etc)
the experience i had gained in equator will most likely be this - if your presentation skills is good and if you think you can outsmart the person you are presenting it to, you dont really need to do much. as for time management, i dont think i learn any whilst in equator. i mean we were given 10 weeks to do some easy projects. in the real world, you get 3 hours. but honestly, even when i was still a student, i only start doing the assigned project a week or 2 before the due date. now working in the real industry, i do 2 campaigns a day, where during equator days, i have pretty much 10 weeks per campaign. so the conclusion is, the deadlines in equator is a joke.
Do you have any word of advice for our current students?
think outside the box. stand up to your lecturer if you have to. they arent that great. if you think you can do better, go ahead and do it even though you might get crappy grades. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. all you really have to do is learn from your mistakes. end of the day, its your money. you are paying them. go ahead and experiment all sorts of stuff. you wont get the chance to do experimentation in the real world. here's my favourite quote for you..."do not follow a path where other's have left. go instead where there's no path and leave a trail..." (fuiiiyoooh...!)
What would you like to say or wish Equator during this mormentous celebration?
i wish equator all the best. if there’s 1 piece of advice, im gonna say stop organising stupid things like this. concentrate in giving a better education to fellow students by hiring better and more qualified lecturers. even a schmoe like me was asked to be a lecturer once. how funny is that?
if there is anything i said above upsets anyone, i am happy if you wanna discuss it anyway you want. i have my reason to believe what i said is true.
